De Lagotto Romagnolo, van de waterhonden familie, komt uit Romagna in het noordoosten van Italie. Dit zeer oude ras werd vroeger ook wel Romagna Water hond genoemd.
De Lagotto Romagnolo stamt uit de 13 de, 14 de eeuw. Op oude wandtapijten is de Lagotto
Romagnolo te zien als gebruikshond cq waterhondje.Toen de moerassen aan het einde
van de negentiende eeuw drooggelegd werden moest men op zoek naar een een nieuwe
taak voor de voormalige jachthond. De Lagotto werd een uitstekende truffelzoek
er
vandaar ook wel de naam Truffel hondje.
In de de Lagotto Romagnolo zijn veel positieve eigenschappen verenigd. Ze is vrolijk,
liefdevol, vriendelijk, opmerkzaam, wendbaar, werk lustig, leergierig, behendig en
heeft een sterke “will to please”. In haar smoeltje huist een buitengewoon goed
werkend neusje, maar haar jacht instinct is door de jaren heen verdwenen. Hier geldt
beslist dat de uitzondering de regel bevestigd want een Lagotto met een jacht trofee
in de bek is meerdere keren gesignale
erd.
De Lagotto is een prettige verschijning met een zacht uiterlijk en karakter. Ze heeft een hoog aaibaarheidsgehalte en is knuffelig. Ze is zeer gehecht aan haar baasje plus gezin. Ze is beschermend en daardoor een goede waakhond. Samen met haar compacte grootte maakt het haar tot een ideale familie hond.
Het ras is niet geschikt voor drie ommetjes per dag. Ze wil graag meer. De Lagotto
is uitermate geschikt voo
r de honden sport. Onder andere Behendigheid, Gehoorzaamheid,
Fly ball, Dog dance, begeleiding's- en reddingshond behoren tot de mogelijkheden.
Uiteraard zijn deze sporten pas van toepassing als de puppy fase voorbij is en er
sprake is van een jong volwassen hond.
De Lagotto is bij uitstek het typetje die voor, en met, het baasje wil werken. Dit betekent niet dat u zo nodig met haar op truffel jacht hoeft! Er zijn mogelijkheden te over om op een leuke manier met uw hondje actief te zijn.
De Lagotto is niet uitsluitend zo ongecompliceerd als hierboven beschreven. Wanneer
de Lagotto niet voldoende gestimuleerd wordt zal ze zelf op ontdekkingsreis gaan.
Of ' t vrouwtje dat soort initiatief ook op prijs stelt?
De Lagotto ruikt aan en proeft van alles! Ze is daarin zeer zeker niet kieskeurig te noemen! De naam Dyson of Hoover zou haar niet misstaan.
De Lagotto verhaart niet. De vacht groeit door en dient tenminste tweemaal per jaar getrimd te worden. Een regelmatige borstel beurt is noodzakelijk om te voorkomen dat de vacht gaat klitten en vilten. De hond wordt gewaardeerd door mensen met allergieen. Men schijnt geen last van de vacht te ondervinden. Ook op dat gebied blijkt de Lagotto dus een speciaaltje. Asanova heeft ondertussen ervaring met de Lagotto en allergie. Verbazend is het dat er geen negatieve reactie ontstaat tijdens een kortstondige of langdurige ontmoeting met de Lagotto. Maar ook hier geldt dat het individueel beoordeeld dient te worden. Helaas is de Lagotto niet zaligmakend in alle gevallen waar sprake is van allergie.
Over vachten gesproken. De toegestane kleuren zijn: Effen crème, wit met bruin of oranje bruin met of zonder wit. Sommige honden hebben een bruin of donker bruin masker. Tan markeringen in verschillende nuances zijn toegestaan. Niet toegestaan is de kleur zwart, in welke vorm ook.
Schoft hoogtes en gewichten: Reuen 43 tot 48 cm, 13-16 kg (Ideaal 46 cm) Teven 41 tot 46 cm, 11-14 kg (Ideaal, 43 cm)
De levensverwachting van de Lagotto Romagnolo is 12 tot 14 jaar. Sommigen tellen zelfs tot 16 jaar oud.
Romagna in the north east of Italy is the place where the Lagotto Romagnolo found its origin. This very old breed used to be called the Romagna waterhound.
The Lagotto Romagnolo originates during the 13th, 14th century. Old tapestries the
Lagotto Romagnolo is to be seen as a utility dog, i.e.: a waterdog. When, at the
end of the 19th century, the marshes dried up, one had to look for another task for
the former hound.The Lagotto became an excellent ‘truffle searcher’, that’s why he
has got the name: ‘Truffle dog’ as well.
Many good qualities are united in the Lagotto Romagnolo. She is happy, loving, friendly, attentive, and manoeuvrable, has zest for work and to learn, dexterous and has a strong ‘will to please’. Her little fce possesses a good- working nose, but her hunting instinct has disappeared over the years.
The Lagotto has a pleasant appearance with a soft exterior and character. She loves
to be stroked and cuddled. She is very attached to her owner and the family. She
is protective and because of that a good guard dog. Together with her comp
act size,
it makes her an ideal family dog.
Three walks a day is not enough for this dog’s desire. She would like a bit more.The Lagotto is exceptionally good in doing sport. I.e.: Skills, obedience, fly ball. Dog dance, guide- and rescue dog are a possibility too. Of course, these types of sport will apply once the puppy-phase has come to an end and we are talking about: young adult dog.
The Lagotto is the ultimate type of dog that wants to work for and with her master. This does not mean, however, that it is necessary to go hunting for truffles with her! There are many possibilities to be active with your dog in an enjoyable way.
The Lagotto is not as uncomplicated as being described above. Whenever the Lagotto
is not being stimulated enough, she will go exploring by herself. Does her owner
appreciate this kind of initiative??The Lagotto sniffs at and tastes allsorts. She
is not to be called ‘picky’. Th
e names: ‘Dyson’ and ‘Hoover’ would suit her fine.
The Lagotto does not mould. (Shed hair) The coat keeps on growing and needs to be trimmed at least twice a year. Regular brushing is necessary to avoid the coat tangling and matting. This dog is being accepted by people with allergies. One does not seem to suffer from this coat. So, also in this field the Lagotto seems to be special.
Meanwhile, Asanova has experience with the Lagotto and allergy. It is extraordinary that there are no negative reactions during short or long meetings with the Lagotto.
Talking of coats. The accepted colours are: plain cream, white with brown or orange, brown with or without white. Some dogs have a brown or dark brown muzzle. Tan markings in various nuances are accepted.
Not allowed is the colour black, in whatever shape or form.

Male dogs: 43-48cm 13-16kg (ideal: 46cm)
Female dogs: 41-46cm 11-14kg (ideal: 43cm)
The life-expectancy of the Lagotto Romagnolo is 12-14 years. Some of them have been known to be 16 years of age.
